You see CHRIST must be in us before he can be on us. Christ in you the hope of Glory. (Colossians 1:27) is the message.Christ must be in our heart by faith, before He can be in our lives by holiness. Faith puts Christ within, and enables us to put on Christ without.Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).When Christ is formed in you, He is formed through the word of faith which you receive or proclaim.And once you receive the word, you have receive faith and Christ. This is because Christ is the Word of God (John 1:1).Romans 10:8 says“But what does it say? ‘The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,’ that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim” (NIV):John 1:12 says“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”: Power to become lies in receiving Christ by faith. Receiving Christ by faith means receiving his word by faith and believing in him, as the Son of the living God. Faith comes through the hearing the word of God. Romans 10:17Having Christ within as your Saviour is the secret of your inner life. The life of glory. So put on Christ to be the beauty of your daily life. Let the external be brightened by the internal; and this shall be to you that “armour of light” which all the soldiers of the Lord Jesus are privileged to wear. As Christ is your substance, nourishing the inner man, so put on Christ as your garment, covering the outer man.What does it mean to put on the Lord Jesus?It means to be the light because Christ is the light. John 8:12;Mathew 5: 14, 16; John 9: 5.You should walk as light, shining everywhere you go, showing the work of light and manifesting light. Light signifies righteousness and holiness. Light signifies the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the believer; love, humility, gentleness, etc. (Galatians 5;22-23). Listen to the following scriptures:’Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall has the light of life”(John 8:12).“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid”(Mathew 5:14).” Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Mathew 5:16)“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:5)It means to put on the armour of light. Romans 13: 12, Ephesians 6:13-14.The armour of light are the virtues that keep you as the light of God, the light of the world, and living in the light of his word. These are: holiness, righteous living/the breastplate of righteousness, faith/shield of faith, humility, gentleness, the gospel of peace, etc. The Bible has these to say:Ephesians 6:13 – 17; “Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you has done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all these, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light” Romans13:12It means to walk in love. Romans 13:10, 1 John 2:10; 1 John 4: 10, 7“Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law” (Romans 13:10). To put on the Lord Jesus Christ means to walk in love because Christ is the love of God. This is why the Bible says that love is the fulfilling of the law or commandment of God (Romans 13:10). In 1 John 2: 10, the Bible says, “He that loveth his brother abideth in the light…”. This is because God is light (John 8:12). Therefore as those that walk in love, dearly beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God” (1 John 4:7).It means to walk honesty. Romans 13:13“Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying” Romans 13:13It means we should not make provisions for the flesh. 1 John 2:15-16; Romans 13:14.“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lust thereof”.(Romans 13:14)“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world, if any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world”It means we should walk in the truth. John 5: 33; 1 John 4:6“Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth”. (John 5:33)“We are of God, he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth and the spirit of error” (1 John 4:6)I pray today that the garment of righteousness and true holiness rest on your life, and family. He gave us His commands and precepts to obey. When we obey, He blesses us; when we disobey, He chastens us. He cares enough to preserve a remnant in every generation to keep this world going in the face of severe punishment for evil.HE ALONE (THE ULTIMATE CARE-GIVER), even Jesus Christ can carry our problems perfectly!The promise is clearly given in this wonderful verse taken as our text in 1 Peter 5:7″Casting your care upon Him, for He cares for you”It may seem as no one cares, whether we are suffering or not, whether we fail or succeed, see his promise in Matt.11:28 for He cares;”Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden & I will give you rest”In the most intense moment of sorrow, you may be almost beyond human help, but his promise in Phil.4:6 suggests”Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer & supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known unto God”In a time where it seems no man is willing to help, always look up to God and look into his promises, as we can sight in Philip.4:19″But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”We can take comfort and courage as the song writer says, courage brother do not stumble, thou thy world be dark as night, always take solace in his word and promises, as recorded in Eph.3:20″He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”Life has its ups and downs, its highs and lows. At one time or the other, every man and woman faces severe trials. The believers in the most successful state cannot escape the testing, afflictions and tribulations, the pains and pressures that are common to all of us. But always count on our ultimate care-giver, Jesus Christ because He cares for you. Look his promise in John 16:3″In me you shall have peace. In the world you will have tribulation: but be of good cheer; l have overcome the world.”Beloved, man’s trial and afflictions are simple natural, Job 5: 6-7, suggest that man is born unto trouble. And in Job 14: 1-2, he declared that, “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble”.What shall we say then, the only solution of man is to return to his maker? Let us return unto God, for He alone cares for us.If you have not given your life to Jesus, but you are willing to do so, you can say this prayer with me. Marching and quick-marching are much easier to God’s warriors than standing still. There are hours of perplexity when the most willing spirit, anxiously desirous to serve the Lord, knows not what part to take. Then what shall it do? Vex itself by despair? Fly back in cowardice, turn to the right hand in fear, or rush forward in presumption? No, but simply wait. Wait in prayer, however. Call upon God, and spread the case before him; tell him your difficulty, and plead his promise of aid. In dilemmas between one duty and another, it is sweet to be humble as a child, and wait with simplicity of soul upon the Lord. It is sure to be well with us when we feel and know our own folly, and are heartily willing to be guided by the will of God. But wait in faith. Express your unstaggering confidence in him; for unfaithful, untrusting waiting, is but an insult to the Lord. Believe that if he keep you tarrying even till midnight, yet he will come at the right time; the vision shall come and shall not tarry. Wait in quiet patience, not rebelling because you are under the affliction, but blessing your God for it. Never murmur against the second cause, as the children of Israel did against Moses; never wish you could go back to the world again, but accept the case as it is, and put it as it stands, simply and with your whole heart, without any self-will, into the hand of your covenant God, saying, “Now, Lord, not my will, but thine be done. Natural disease may be instrumentally healed by men, but even then the honour is to be given to God who giveth virtue unto medicine, and bestoweth power unto the human frame to cast off disease. As for spiritual sicknesses, these remain with the greatest Physician of all time alone; he claims it as his prerogative, “I kill and I make alive, I wound and I heal;” and one of the Lord’s choice titles is Jehovah-Rophi, the Lord that healeth thee. “I will heal thee of thy wounds,” is a promise which could not come from the lip of man, but only from the mouth of the eternal God. On this account the psalmist cried unto the Lord, “O Lord, heal me, for my bones are sore vexed,” and again, “Heal my soul, for I have sinned against thee.” For this, also, the godly praise the name of the Lord, saying, “He healeth all our diseases.” He who made man can restore man; he who was at first thecreator of our nature can new create it. What a transcendent comfort it is that in the person of Jesus “dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily!” My soul, whatever thy disease may be, this great Physician can heal thee. If he be God, there can be no limit to his power. Come then with the blind eye of darkened understanding, come with the limping foot of wasted energy, come with the maimed hand of weak faith, the fever of an angry temper, or the ague of shivering despondency, come just as thou art, for he who is God can certainly restore thee of thy plague. None shall restrain the healing virtue which proceeds from Jesus our Lord. Legions of devils have been made to own the power of the beloved Physician, and never once has he been baffled. The best of men are conscious above all others that they are men at the best. Empty boats float high, but heavily laden vessels are low in the water; mere professors can boast, but true children of God cry for mercy upon their unprofitableness. We have need that the Lord should have mercy upon our good works, our prayers, our preachings, our alms-givings, and our holiest things. The blood was not only sprinkled upon the doorposts of Israel’s dwelling houses, but upon the sanctuary, the mercy-seat, and the altar, because as sin intrudes into our holiest things, the blood of Jesus is needed to purify them from defilement. If mercy be needed to be exercised towards our duties, what shall be said of our sins? In order, altogether, to secure the integrity of the vow, they were not even allowed anything that had to do with the vine; they were, in fact, to avoid the appearance of evil. Surely this is a lesson to the Lord’s separated ones, teaching them to come away from sin in every form, to avoid not merely its grosser shapes, but even its spirit and similitude. Strict walking is much despised in these days, but rest assured, dear reader, it is both the safest and the happiest. He who yields a point or two to the world is in fearful peril; he who eats the grapes of Sodom will soon drink the wine of Gomorrah. A little crevice in the sea-bank in Holland lets in the sea, and the gap speedily swells till a province is drowned. Worldly conformity, in any degree, is a snare to the soul, and makes it more and more liable to presumptuous sins. Moreover, as the Nazarite who drank grape juice could not be quite sure whether it might not have endured a degree of fermentation, and consequently could not be clear in heart that his vow was intact, so the yielding, temporizing Christian cannot wear a conscience void of offence, but must feel that the inward monitor is in doubt of him. Things doubtful we need not doubt about; they are wrong to us. Things tempting we must not dally with, but flee from them with speed. Better be sneered at as a Puritan than be despised as a hypocrite. Careful walking may involve much self-denial, but it has pleasures of its own which are more than a sufficient recompense.PRAYERS ♨️Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love and faithfulness in my life and family. Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ”— Romans 1:7Message🍅We are very apt to regard the apostolic saints as if they were “saints” in a more special manner than the other children of God.All are “saints” whom God has called by His grace, and sanctified by His Spirit; but we are apt to look upon the apostles as extraordinary beings, scarcely subject to the same weaknesses and temptations as ourselves. Yet in so doing we are forgetful of this truth, that the nearer a man lives to God the more intensely has he to mourn over his own evil heart; and the more his Master honours him in his service, the more also doth the evil of the flesh vex and tease him day by day. The fact is, if we had seen the Apostle Paul, we should have thought him remarkably like the rest of the chosen family: and if we had talked with him, we should have said, “We find that his experience and ours are much the same. He is more faithful, more holy, and more deeply taught than we are, but he has the selfsame trials to endure. Nay, in some respects he is more sorely tried than ourselves.” Do not, then, look upon the ancient saints as being exempt either from infirmities or sins; and do not regard them with that mystic reverence which will almost make us idolaters. Their holiness is attainable even by us.We are “called to be saints” by that same voice which constrained them to their high vocation.It is a Christian’s duty to force his way into the inner circle of saintship; the circle of the beloved, by being obedience to our heavenly calling. AND if these saints were superior to us in their attainments, as they certainly were, let us follow them; let us emulate their ardour and holiness.We have the same light that they had, the same grace is accessible to us, and why should we rest satisfied until we have equalled them in heavenly character?They lived with Jesus, they lived for Jesus, therefore they grew like Jesus. Let us live by the same Spirit as they did, “looking unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith” and our saintship will soon be apparent. It is an unfailing source of consolation to them so often as the Holy Spirit leads them into its banqueting house and waves its banner of love, for his banner of his people is love (Song of Solomon 2:4).They delight to contemplate the antiquity of that covenant, remembering that before the day-star knew its place, or planets ran their round, the interests of the saints were made secure in Christ Jesus. It is peculiarly pleasing to them to remember the sureness of the covenant, while meditating upon “the sure mercies of David.” They delight to celebrate it as “signed, and sealed, and ratified, in all things ordered well.” It often makes their hearts dilate with joy to think of its immutability, as a covenant which neither time nor eternity, life nor death, shall ever be able to violate—a covenant as old as eternity and as everlasting as the Rock of ages. They rejoice also to feast upon the fulness of this covenant, for they see in it all things provided for them. God is their portion, Christ their companion, the Spirit their Comforter, earth their lodge, and heaven their home. They see in it an inheritance reserved and entailed to every soul possessing an interest in its ancient and eternal deed of gift. Their eyes sparkled when they saw it as a treasure-trove in the Bible; but oh! how their souls were gladdened when they saw in the last will and testament of their divine kinsman, that it was bequeathed to them! More especially it is the pleasure of God’s people to contemplate the graciousness of this covenant. They see that the law was made void because it was a covenant of works and depended upon merit, but this they perceive to be enduring because grace is the basis, grace the condition, grace the strain, grace the bulwark, grace the foundation, grace the topstone. The covenant is a treasury of wealth, a granary of food, a fountain of life, a store-house of salvation, a charter of peace, and a haven of joy.What a covenant that comes with grace? Reader, it may be that just now you are blinded by the dazzling brightness of the law of God. You feel its claims on your conscience, but you cannot keep it in your life. Not that you find fault with the law, on the contrary, it commands your profoundest esteem, still you are in nowise drawn by it to God; you are rather hardened in heart, and are verging towards desperation. Ah, poor heart! turn thine eye from Moses, with all his repelling splendour, and look to Jesus, resplendent with milder glories. Behold his flowing wounds and thorn-crowned head! He is the Son of God, and therein he is greater than Moses, but he is the Lord of love, and therein more tender than the lawgiver. He bore the wrath of God, and in his death revealed more of God’s justice than Sinai on a blaze, but that justice is now vindicated, and henceforth it is the guardian of believers in Jesus. Hammer Word Bible Church, Abak ⛪💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦Morning Devotion 💚”God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry? “— Jonah 4:9Message 🌈Anger is not always or necessarily sinful, but it has such a tendency to run wild that whenever it displays itself, we should be quick to question its character, with this enquiry, “Doest thou well to be angry?” It may be that we can answer, “YES.” Very frequently anger is the madman’s firebrand, but sometimes it is Elijah’s fire from heaven. We do well when we are angry with sin, because of the wrong which it commits against our good and gracious God; or with ourselves because we remain so foolish after so much divine instruction; or with others when the sole cause of anger is the evil which they do. He who is not angry at transgression becomes a partaker in it. Sin is a loathsome and hateful thing, and no renewed heart can patiently endure it. God himself is angry with the wicked every day, and it is written in His Word, “Ye that love the Lord, hate evil.” Far more frequently it is to be feared that our anger is not commendable or even justifiable, and then we must answer, “NO.” Why should we be fretful with children, passionate with servants, and wrathful with companions? Is such anger honourable to our Christian profession, or glorifying to God? Is it not the old evil heart seeking to gain dominion, and should we not resist it with all the might of our newborn nature? Many professors give way to temper as though it were useless to attempt resistance; but let the believer remember that he must be a conqueror in every point, or else he cannot be crowned. If we cannot control our tempers, what has grace done for us? Some one told Mr. Jay that grace was often grafted on a crab-stump. “Yes,” said he, “but the fruit will not be crabs.” We must not make natural infirmity an excuse for sin, but we must fly to the cross and pray the Lord to crucify our tempers, and renew us in gentleness and meekness after His own image.Prayers ♨️Heavenly Father, I am grateful for your love and care concerning me and my family. But would it not be even more interesting and profitable for us to remark the hand of God in our own lives? Ought we not to look upon our own history as being at least as full of God, as full of his goodness and of his truth, as much a proof of his faithfulness and veracity, as the lives of any of the saints who have gone before? We do our Lord an injustice when we suppose that he wrought all his mighty acts, and showed himself strong for those in the early time, but doth not perform wonders or lay bare his arm for the saints who are now upon the earth. Let us review our own lives. Surely in these we may discover some happy incidents, refreshing to ourselves and glorifying to our God. Have you had no deliverances? Have you passed through no rivers, supported by the divine presence? Have you walked through no fires unharmed? Have you had no manifestations? Have you had no choice favours? The God who gave Solomon the desire of his heart, hath he never listened to you and answered your requests? That God of lavish bounty of whom David sang, “Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things,” hath he never satiated you with fatness? Have you never been made to lie down in green pastures? Have you never been led by the still waters? Surely the goodness of God has been the same to us as to the saints of old. Let us, then, weave his mercies into a song. Let us take the pure gold of thankfulness, and the jewels of praise and make them into another crown for the head of Jesus. In his natural estate he was subject to one principle only, which was darkness; now light has entered, and the two principles disagree. Mark the apostle Paul’s words in the seventh chapter of Romans: “I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin, which is in my members.” (Romans 7: 21-23)How is this state of things occasioned? “The Lord divided the light from the darkness.” Darkness, by itself, is quiet and undisturbed, but when the Lord sends in light, there is a conflict, for the one is in opposition to the other: a conflict which will never cease till the believer is altogether light in the Lord. If there be a division within the individual Christian, there is certain to be a division without. So soon as the Lord gives to any man light, he proceeds to separate himself from the darkness around; he secedes from a merely worldly religion of outward ceremonial, for nothing short of the gospel of Christ will now satisfy him, and he withdraws himself from worldly society and frivolous amusements, and seeks the company of the saints, for “We know we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren.” The light gathers to itself, and the darkness to itself. What God has divided, let us never try to unite, but as Christ went without the camp, bearing his reproach, so let us come out from the ungodly, and be a peculiar people. He was holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners; and, as he was, so we are to be nonconformists to the world, dissenting from all sin, and distinguished from the rest of mankind by our likeness to our Master.Prayers ♨️Heavenly Father, I thank you for setting me free from the law of sin and death by the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
